Letter From The President
On behalf of our entire membership, we would like to thank you for your ongoing support.
Dear Resident, Business and Community Member,
As President of Bend Firefighter’s Association Local 227, and on behalf of our entire membership, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support.
In May, local voters will determine if we pass a new local option levy. The amount of the existing levy has not increased since 2014, yet in that 9 years, Bend Fire & Rescue’s call volume has increased 63% and is forecast to continue going up. Crews out on calls leave empty fire stations, leading to increased response times. Response times are closely tied to outcomes; safer staffing levels mean a safer community.
Revenue from a new levy is critical to retain Bend Fire & Rescue’s current staffing levels. If the new levy is not approved by voters, the community will see a hiring freeze, and a sharp cut to our current staff of professional first responders actively serving our region daily. Fewer responders mean fewer crews to help on scene at car accidents, fires, cardiac events, and myriad other calls we serve every shift.
If you have further questions, the City has many resources here to help. We thank you for your interest and support-
Best Regards,
Stephen Doyle
President
